The aptly-named Summer Snowflake Viburnum puts on a magnificently unique display of snow-white halo blossoms that begin inspiring and end in early fall with the changing colors of its foliage. The limbs of a Summer Snowflake tend to grow further outwards in a horizontal fashion, creating a beautiful tiered wedding cake effect. These pure-white flowers naturally grow in large round clusters. When they finally begin to open in mid-to-late spring, only the outer buds bloom at first, creating the signature halo blossom display. Given a little time, the inner buds start to flush and open as well, changing the blossoming shape from that of a halo to a beautiful winter snowflake in the middle of summer. Blossoming continues into early fall, simultaneously occurring with the changing foliage colors that gradually turn from deep green to a striking dark burgundy/purplish-red shade. Summer Snowflake Viburnum is 1 of the few ornamental plants which turn to lovely shades of autumn color while still blooming at the same time. This beautifully unique Viburnum reaches between 5 ft. and 8 ft. in height, with an equal horizontal spread. This shrub loves shade and sun both and grows just about anywhere with constant watering through at least the first summer after planting. Once established, Summer Snowflake is a wonderfully low-maintenance shrub that offers brilliant pure white halo/snowflake-shaped blossoms as well as a naturally tiered wedding cake branching form.
